It is a major work health and safety issue. According to Safe Work Australia, 9.4 percent of Australian workers have experienced workplace bullying in the previous six months.
It is costly in terms of lost productivity and workers’ compensation. $22,600 is the median cost for accepted bullying and/or harassment claims in 2013-14.
Responding quickly is the best way to deal with poor behaviour.
These three elements help set the right framework for appropriate behaviour.
Workplace behaviour education – let people know what behaviour is and isn’t appropriate.Strong reporting culture – people are supported to raise issues early without fear of reprisal.Procedural fairness – clearly documented procedures that are fair and equitable.
